The AMS-02 superconducting magnet
With a diameter of nearly 3 metres and a cold mass approaching 2 tonnes, AMS-02 will be the first large superconducting magnet to be launched into Space. The 14 coils generate fields up to 7 T and are cooled to 1.8 K by 2500 litres of superfluid Helium.

The double Adiabatic Demagnetisation Refrigeration (ADR) magnet consists of two sets of coils, each producting 3 T. The coils are actively shielded to allow independent operation and to reduce stray field. The magnet is completely cryogen free and wound with ultra-fine wire giving an operating current of less than 2.3 A at full field.

A 3D vector magnet designed to generate a magnetic field of 0.4 T in any direction. The magnet is designed to operate at currents of less than 5 A.
